Lively and cheerful habour town
Frederikshavn is one of Denmark’s liveliest and most cheerful harbour towns, with good food, music and dancing, shopping, art and culture.
Frederikshavn also has a very attractive and popular indoor swimming pool, bowling alleys and cinema. Frederikshavn holds the festive old-time guard ceremony – Tordenskioldsdage on the first weekend in september.
Frederikshavn and the area
The Cloos tower – Cloostårnet – situated in the waterworks forest about 5 km west of Frederikshavn (in the direction of Brønderslev) rises 160 metres above sea level. The view from the tower’s closed viewing platform is unique. There’s a lift and a stairway to the top.
If you prefer slightly lesser heights, you can also enjoy the view over city and harbour from Pikkerbakken, lookout, 71 metres high in the hills along the coast south of Frederikshavn, and worth a visit. You can walk, cycle or drive to the lookout. In clear weather the view extends to the island of Læsø and even all the way to the Skaw.
Bangsbo Fort, is a sight of historical significance from the second world war, just south of Pikkerbakken. The fort consists of about 80 concrete bunkers, a few of which are still used by the Kattegat Marine District. Other activities and sights include the flower festival in Bangsbo botanic gardens, Open by Night, the harbour festival, and much, much more!
